The New Moon in late Aries, taking place early on Wednesday morning, is a special one. It is accompanied by a triple conjunction of Mars, Venus and the new planet, Eris, making a total of six planets in Aries counting Sun and Moon, since Uranus also resides at the 10th degree of Aries in forming square with Pluto. The new dwarf planet, Eris, is a feminine warrior energy, and so is quite a fitting accompaniment for Mars and Venus in conjunction only a few degrees away. We therefore have a distinct focus on relationship now, and a coming together of masculine and feminine elements in pursuit of better connections, both romantic and non-romantic, between us all. Justly is it said that we need each other in order that we begin, as a culture, to truly shine.With a focus on relationship at the center of this New Moon, the entire lunar cycle that begins with this configuration is colored by it, so that the remainder of April and into May could be termed a “relationship month.” We might want to ask ourselves where we could do more to connect over to the other side of our own particular gender; where as masculine players we might try to adopt a softer approach, and where, as softer more feminine beings of either physical gender, we might — in connection with the masculine — employ more assertive techniques and state our actual needs. In this way we could find ourselves better able to connect with friends, and with partners, and with perhaps neglected parts of ourselves.

It was the amazing psychologist and philosopher C. G. Jung who first formulated that all persons of a typical gender, such as the masculine, contained within themselves an opposite gender part that was desperately craving to be recognized and accepted as a valid piece of the intriguing puzzle of one’s deeper nature. In a man, he termed this the Anima, or feminine soul within, and in a woman, the Animus. These disinherited parts are very commonly projected onto a partner, and the astrology of an individual chart gives insight as to their hidden qualities, and the likely characteristics of the person to whom that individual would be attracted. But it is better yet when these choices are more conscious, and when an integration can take place between these various parts.

We get an interesting picture of this when we examine the Sabian symbols for the Sun and Moon, in contrast with the symbols for Venus and Mars. For the New Moon, “A pugilist entering the ring” — a very masculine image — while for the others “A woman in pastel colors carrying a valuable load” and “An open window, a net curtain, blowing into a cornucopia,” which Marc Edmond Jones refers to as “joyful realization” and “an irrepressible genius for capturing the richer rewards of life.” Together these could signify the enhanced possibilities of an integration between the masculine and feminine sides of our natures.

With Mercury still in Pisces, and in aspect to both Mars and Venus at the time of this New Moon configuration, it is thus an excellent time to continue observing all that we do with regard to our relationship partners. We might be able to catch ourselves in the act of habitual patterns that have outlived their usefulness, or perhaps give each other a break at a moment when we had been about to deny one.

In traditional Western Astrology Pisces is represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions and not seeing each other. As a Water sign, emotions can run high and they can get lost in a fantasy “Neptunian” world if not careful. This is WHY “mirrors” are so important, as we “mirror” for each other the TRUTH we “see”. Oppositions also help us to gain clarity, Pisces opposite sign is Virgo and we’re ALL still analyzing from this last Full Moon. Through Virgo we receive the gift of discernment and details that may otherwise be over looked. The polarities of these two energies can open us up Spiritually through the Masters … are you listening to your inner Guidance? It’s very strong and vibrant now, asking us to “tune-in”, the time is now.

In MWA this is the Big Winds Moon, it blows big medicine, as most people say they feel it BIG time! We’re coming out of Winter, hibernation, dreams and waking up to the new possibilities. The weather is just another indicator that Earth Mother is speaking and of the changes going on. There is a lot of confusion as to what to do and many are in shock, much like deer in the headlights. Big questions like; what are our priorities? Work long hours to pay for a house where no one lives because they’re too busy working to pay for it? What is REAL and what is illusion? What do we keep or what do we “let go” of? This is why Cougar reminds us to be patient and watch the signs, we’ll know when to act and when to just lay low … if we’re “tuned-in”! LISTEN to the council of Masters that are just waiting for us to acknowledge that we truly are Spiritual Beings having this Earth walk experience. AHO!

So, New Moon … first I light my candle (I like 7-day novena candles in glass jar) and then I smudge myself first with white sage (my preference), then my offering to the 7 directions. BTW: “Dancing With The Wheel” Sun Bear & Wabun has some beautiful ceremonies that go into great sacred detail and also allow us to to have a better understanding in our world with ALL OUR RELATIONS.

After the cleansing ceremony I take the time to review the last couple of weeks after this Full Moon Virgo and what I’ve gained in wisdom and understanding. This is when I write my wish list and DREAM what I want to create next. I truly believe we are the Dreamers of our own reality and this is part of the process. Personally, I went deep into the void, deep into the teaching, deep into Ancient lifetimes of remembering what I forgot. This energy was in my 8th House of death/rebirth, grieving, the magical mysteries and letting go of what no longer serves (Virgo) … I’m doing just that, facing my issues and releasing them to Great Spirit with LOVE. I have battle scars on my face from the pain and depth of tears … NOW, I’m coming out of the darkness and into the Light with renewed hope for the future and the potential therein. May you FEEL that strength to do the same and welcome this New Moon with optimism and courage. New Moon, New Day, New time … create something NEW!

2-9-2013 Happy New Moon in Aquarius (Otter)

This is the 2nd New Moon of the year, Rest and Cleansing Moon and we are preparing ourselves for the activity of growth coming up. Excellent time to do a cleanse or fast, which is why so many have colds and flu during this time, the body needs to rid itself of toxins. It’s really a blessing when we look at it with a positive perspective … “happening for me and not to me“!

Sun Bear: “Because of their tie with the moon, Otter people have the capacity to be very emotional, although they sometimes hide it. They feel things deeply, but they sometimes don’t allow the deepest of their feelings to show through to other people. Rather, they prefer to keep things on a lighter note and not to trouble others with the depths of feeling they are capable of having. ( pg 24 “The Medicine Wheel Earth Astrology”)

The VOID or darkness is the place of creation and many people are fearful to walk through this area on the Wheel. The New Moon is when we plant our “seeds” for the garden we are wanting to harvest … what will you reap? Where do you have the sign Aquarius in your birth chart? Sharing what our deepest fears are will empower us to release anything we’ve been “stuffing” for much too long. Are we being superficial and shallow now just to fit in and be social or are we going to step it up and accept that transforming energy of Saturn in Scorpio (Snake medicine) that is demanding we “own it”? This dark place is where we feel our pain and sorrow, grief and unfulfilled dreams, fear of our power that could hurt or annihilate someone into nothingness … Whatever teaching that is for each of us to receive, this is the time NOW for the beautiful support of Otter people. Family, close friends and community are the priority!

Our Solar System

1-30-13 ~ Jupiter represents expansion, good fortune and opportunities. It is the largest planet in our solar system and also offers us “protection” from outside forces. It moves direct 1-31-2013 and since it’s in Gemini (Air sign) there will be more communication, contracts, writing and networking going on! Retrogrades are excellent for “going back” and getting something that was missed, perhaps it’s timing, rewriting documents/books/articles that needed editing or people we needed to “re-connect” with and heal any misunderstandings.

Gemini’s (or whatever “HOUSE” in your natal chart you have in Gemini) need to take advantage of this opportunity, perhaps moving, relocating, publishing, new career possibilities and “speaking up” for what you want. Remember that Gemini are Deer People and they maintain a sweetness about them that is irresistible when they turn on the charm! Jupiter stays 1 year in each sign, (it won’t be back for 12 years) and moves into the sign of Cancer on 6-25-2013. Cancer signs get ready for this transiting Jupiter return next!

This involves a Master teaching to oppositions of male/female energy (Capricorn/Cancer), the “I AM” Aries/Libra, the resolution of judgement & balance … unity of opposites, which is ONENESS.

Sun in Aquarius (until 2-18-2013) also shines its light, which enhances whatever projects it’s involved with. Perhaps there’s more creativity in advertising a new business, inventing new ways to promote what’s been on the “back burner” for some time or expressing your gifts in a new way. Bringing or joining people together for a “pow wow” would be a good idea, sharing lots of love and support!

2-9-2013 New Moon in Aquarius also adds an emotional longing to fulfill our DREAMS now and this power day is celebrated by the Chinese New Year, of the Snake.

We’ve talked about how powerful this is (previous posts) because of the planet Saturn being in the sign of Scorpio (Snake medicine) until 9-17-2015 and how this is representing a transformational “shedding of the skin” … getting rid of anything that no longer serves and this is happening globally! It’s just the same for everyone; rich or poor, sick or healthy … we are letting go and allowing that which is for our Highest good to manifest. The “KEY” is different for each; unique teachings and individual “karma” to play out. So, in my humble opinion the sooner we get out of judgement, of self and others, the sooner we can get on to what our true purpose and responsibility to Earth Mother is! I love this Uranus (sudden & unexpected happenings) in Aries (Red Hawk) energy, there’s never a dull moment and it’s good to use those instincts to move quickly if necessary. It continues to nudge us up side the head when we’re not listening, so that we can listen to what the intuition is saying! We’re honing our awareness by testing our reactions, becoming more aware of what we’re “saying” and owning it. Those with Aries Sun/Moon may feel it more intensely, best to “circle” around and observe before committing to any projects first. This is a powerful teaching of “centering the self rather than being self centered”. What “HOUSE” contains Aries in your natal chart? There’s a clue for evolving this energy and choosing other options.

Mercury (communicator) in Pisces (Cougar) turns retrograde 2-23-13 until 3-17-13. This is a time to “go back” and review past dreams, business concepts, contracts and intentions. Priorities and integrity are challenges and gifts now, we must be observant of our motives and justifications. Add this to the New Moon, a time of new beginnings, moving forward with our visions and claiming what we want and it’s a truly magical adventure with us as the DREAMER …

Full Moon Virgo 2-25-13 opposite Sun in Pisces allows us the “light” to see how far we’ve evolved with our relationships, compassion, critical nature, over thinking things and so many more self awareness issues. Ask “How does this serve?” … to argue, being right rather than kind, or being quiet and stuffing what you want to say or how does it serve to continue any behavior where’s there’s a need for approval from anyone! New Moon in Capricorn-Snow Goose

This is the first New Moon of the year and the intentions we started the year off with are changing again! Snow Goose (Capricorn) does not like change, traditionally they return to the same migration-nesting spots every year and they also mate for life. Together they guard the nest and when the time comes to move, the family often flies together. Teamwork is vital for the group, they respond to danger with lookouts that keep an eye out for eagles and other predators. Upon sighting a threat they call out to the rest of the flock, which may take flight. They are loyal and trustworthy and can be very defensive and strong when pushed up against a wall, they will not back down. And so it is …Today many “children” are moving back home with the folks because of the economic times, the family unit is changing, priorities are changing and values are coming back into alignment. The “family” is hunkering down with a wait and see attitude. The only security being what is in the moment and how to respond. The word responsibility has taken on a new meaning, the ability to respond to whatever presents itself in the NOW moment. We can learn a great deal by watching Snow Goose. Thank you!

Astrologically Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Pluto are all in Capricorn and this is what people are seeing in the news (Sun), feeling emotionally (Moon), talking about (Mercury), seeking loving relationships (Venus) and will be transformed by these changes (Pluto). It would seem that resistance to these changes only makes it worse, this may be why so many are “leaving” (dying) now, they just cannot accept the changes and physically their bodies respond to the fear.

Now let’s add Saturn (facing our fears and becoming the Master of them) in Scorpio (Snake) (until 9-2015) and we are ALL going through a “shedding” of our old ways. Snake doesn’t fear this process, it is a natural way of life but it must surrender during the process … renewed with a new “skin”, ready to live instinctively with strength and clarity. Watch how they go into a state of calm, often sinking their fangs into a tree branch and releasing … So Be It.

Now that’s what I want for this New Moon, to be able to release anything that holds me back from being the best I can be … clear, strong and determined not to let anything stop me! Now, I understand that it’s all been happening FOR me and not TO me and that’s made all the difference in the World. We are getting simpler in our lives, letting go of what no longer serves, giving all those things away (clothes, storage items, etc.) that we never (if ever) use and taking a close look at our spending habits. That is the gift of this New Moon in Capricorn …

Since this is the last New Moon of the year, it represents an accumulation of experiences throughout our journey through the Medicine Wheel and now we go within and honor the teachings we’ve received and shared throughout the year. Obsidian is such a mysterious stone, it absorbs energy and holds it until it can be released. Personal experience of an obsidian ball we kept at home, it finally dumped everything out and I got really ill. Bury it or wash with running water, sage is also excellent! So let it be our intention, to CLEAR all negative energies we may be holding on (our or others). It is vital now, our temples need the cleanse of sacred smudging. The medicine of Elk is Black Spruce, the aroma is so healing and strong! You can also have a soothing cup of tea from this, it has the properties to loosen mucous and relieves congestion.

The power of the Thunderbird Clan (Fire sign) represents the ego and the “creative fire within” to manifest goals. New Moon require this “fire in the belly” energy to accomplish these dreams and visions. I light a blue candle on this New Moon, for peace of mind and clarity. Thunderbird shows us that the EGO is there to remind us of WHO we really work for, helps us get back on track when we listen. It has been said that “you cannot have the light without the darkness behind it”, the EGO gives us that choice and we say THANK YOU, without the tests, how do we know where our strengths and weaknesses are? Attitude of Gratitude is the way, it’s there right in front of us all the time! Elk medicine carries with it perseverance of always reaching for solutions to any problem and solving them!

Today the planet Uranus (Higher Guidance, Intuition) went direct and remains in Aries (warrior energy) and is Red Hawk power. If we take the time to “circle around” a situation and view it from a Higher perspective, we will get a bigger picture! Let that be our prayer for this time we’re in. From the view of Hawk, we can SEE there is only ONE Earth Mother and we are ALL her children. We are ALL in this together, we can use this warrior energy to activate that desire to resolve conflict and separation … to embrace ALL OUR RELATIONS in ONENESS, LOVE & PEACE.

New Moon 9/15/2012 Virgo (Brown Bear)

Big Council meeting going on with this Virgo New Moon (new beginnings) joining with Sun (Light), Mercury (communications) and Saturn (Task Master) still in Libra, and of course the once every 12 year event of Jupiter (opportunities) in Gemini (speaker)! Lets TALK about it! I’ve been hearing that people are finding their “voice” and speaking up, finally! This Jupiter in Gemini is assisting people to say STOP this madness and speak up! How is it really serving us, our communities and our World … how is it serving and who is doing it??

Yes, a powerful time we are in and there are some challenging energies this next couple of weeks with Venus in Leo, squaring (difficulties) Mars in Scorpio. Relationships of all kinds will be tested, we must be careful not to project our belief systems on others and judge their behavior as a reflection of who we are. Discernment is the key, masks are coming off and the truth is revealed, especially powerful in these political times!

The images of Brown Bear sniffing around for any nourishment, turning over every stone and tree trunk for goodies and with sheer determination, feeling the rush of the change of seasons upon us … sound familiar? NOW is the time to slow down and use a little of that Turtle (Earth sign) medicine, slow down and take a look around and see what you have created! Virgo energy is detail gifted, for negative or positve and doesn’t miss much. Do you LIKE what you see around you? This is the time to look into the “mirror” … REFLECTIONS are everywhere offering choices. NEW MOON, what do you want to manifest in this dark void of creation? What are your dreams and your soul’s purpose?

This is an excellent time to organize all those overwhelming “duties” and see what really serves, how what you’re doing is serving you and others. Lots of “Virgo-lizing” (should have, could have, what if …) going on, release what no longer serves.

We light our candle and make our “wish list” at the New Moon, offering up our intentions and gratitude. This Virgo Moon is about offering the energies of Virgo; like the Amethyst stone/crystal, purple color (candle) and flowers/feathers, if they are felt and your own personal medicine pieces. We always smudge first and invite only our helpful Divine Ancestors/Guides to join us. Brown Bear is here to help and be of service; ask for the wisdom and knowledge of their experience, just ask and it will be there. All our helpers are justing waiting for us to speak up and ASK! So Be It!
