No one can give you wisdom. You must discover it for yourself, on the journey through life, which no one can take for you. - Sun Bear
“Many people do the sweat loge. Some do it differently. That’s okay. Don’t get dogmatic. Don’t get locked into something.”
“If you’re going to sit under a tree and meditate and say ‘I’m great and holy and am becoming so pure!’ That’s not it! You’ve got to use your spirituality on an everyday basis with your fellow human beings. That’s what real consciousness is, being able to answer this world.”
As he traveled around the world, Sun Bear often had to listen to long-winded philosophies of life. He used to politely interrupt the speaker and say, “If your philosophy doesn’t grow corn, then I don’t want to hear it.” Sun Bear
“It is a native tradition to sit in a circle and talk-to share what is in your heart.” – John Peters (Slow Turtle), WAMPANOAG The talking circle is also a listening circle. The talking circle allows one person to talk at a time for as long as they need to talk. So much can be gained by listening. Is it a coincidence that the Creator gave us one mouth and two ears? The power of the circle allows the heart to be shared with each other. What we share with each other also heals each other. When we talk about our pain in the circle, it is distributed to the circle, and we are free of the pain. The talking circle works because when the people form a circle, the Great Mystery is in the center. My Creator, give me the courage to share, and the courage to listen.
“There is hope if people will begin to awaken that spiritual part of themselves, that heartfelt knowledge that we are caretakers of this planet. “ - Brooke Medicine Eagle
Pay attention to the whispers, so we won’t have to listen to the screams. ~ Cherokee Proverb
Treat the earth well.
It was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
we borrow it from our Children. Ancient Indian Proverb
